Demand for hosted services drives spending on cloud equipment

The market for hardware to support cloud-computing services will surpass $33 billion in 2011, with much of the growth being driven by demand for public-cloud solutions, according to a forecast from Synergy Research. The U.S. is the leading market for cloud equipment -- including networking, computing and storage -- and accounts for about 40% of sales; top equipment vendors are Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Dell, Cisco Systems and Oracle.
