Dow seeks to ramp up ethane cracking, may seek JV to secure supply

Dow Chemical is considering increasing its ethane cracking capacity at plants along the U.S. Gulf Coast by about 20% to 30% within the next few years. The move is intended to boost ethane production for plastic production and to prepare for a possible natural gas fractionator joint venture. "Ethane is an advantaged feedstock in the United States and we anticipate a favorable oil-to-gas ratio to continue," said Raja Zeidan, vice president for global business at Dow Hydrocarbons.
