Nuclear energy can help New York maintain a stable, reliable supply for electricity, according to Scott Peterson, vice president at the Nuclear Energy Institute. "Six nuclear facilities produce nearly one-third of the state's electricity and 57% of the electricity supplied by sources that do not emit greenhouse gases," Peterson writes. "Without low-cost electricity from nuclear energy, New Yorkers -- who already face the second-highest electricity rates in the nation -- could see electricity rates spike even higher."
