Sasol to build world's first commercial ethylene tetramerization unit

Houston-based chemical maker Sasol will build what could be the world's first commercial ethylene tetramerization unit at its Lake Charles, La., facility. The unit will have the technology to convert ethylene to 1-octene and 1-hexene, and annual capacity to produce more than 110,000 tons of the combined substances. The expansion "will help Sasol's global customer base achieve its long-term polymer and elastomer growth prospects, and the investment reflects our confidence in the competitiveness of the U.S. petrochemicals industry," said Alan Field, managing director at Sasol Solvents.
