Black Friday fails to yield stellar results for retailers

Black Friday did not prevent retail stocks from falling 0.4% on the S&P Retail Index the following Monday. "Except for e-commerce sales (reported to be up 35%), we believe Black Friday and post-Thanksgiving weekend sales for mall-based retailers were ho-ho-hum, and generally disappointing," said Lazard Capital Markets analyst Todd Slater. Retailers that performed well include Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle Outfitters.
