Study yields promising results for BSGI

Breast-specific gamma imaging aided in detection of additional malignant lesions or clarified indefinite findings from standard imaging tests, as well as helped in modifying patient treatment, according to results of a retrospective data review presented at a radiology meeting. Researcher Dr. Marie Tartar, of the University of California, San Diego, also found that BSGI performs comparably with PET. BSGI may benefit patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer and young female patients with dense breast tissue, researchers said.
