76-year-old soda company launches craft beer line

Illinois-based Excel Bottling, which was founded in 1936 and is known for distributing Ski soda in glass bottles, launched two craft beer flavors earlier this fall. The company invested $750,000 in equipment and updated bottling lines, which can fill 300 beer bottles per minute. Bill Meier, whose grandparents started the company, said Excel will look into partnerships with other craft breweries for bottling and distributing its beer.
