Rep. Upton cautions Interior Dept. against drilling delays

Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., wants the Department of Interior to provide more input on offshore-drilling permits and is cautioning against using safety rules to stall drilling projects. In a November letter to the department, Upton said he plans to review offshore drilling if he is picked as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Though he lauds Interior's move to lift the temporary freeze on deepwater drilling, he urged the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement not to substitute for it with a "Permitorium."
