Companies are developing technologies that enhance the abilities of phones, navigation systems and even home appliances as computer chip sizes and prices shrink. For example, Motorola's Homesight uses wireless sensors and video cameras to monitor windows, doors and motion, and can send alerts via text messages and e-mails whenever a sensor is tripped.
