Survey: Many health groups aren't ready for HIPAA audits

A survey of more than 400 responding health information management leaders reveals that although 70% said their groups are "somewhat prepared" for a federal audit to assess their compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, standards, only 17% said their groups are fully ready for it. Insufficient time and lack of funding to enforce HIPAA rules were cited as barriers, noted the survey.
