Md. hospitals consider capped payments to target readmissions

More than one dozen Maryland hospitals are considering a three-year voluntary program of capped payments for in-patient care in the hopes of creating substantial savings if they can work with providers to reduce readmissions. The initiative could serve as a national model for improving care and lowering costs by reducing unnecessary or repeat hospital admissions.
