Council on Competitiveness unveils report to remake manufacturing

Changes to tax law and export rules as well as tighter integration between research and industry are part of a proposal to improve the manufacturing sector, outlined in a report by the Council on Competitiveness. Americans also need to change their perception of the industry, said Deere Chairman and CEO Samuel Allen, who chairs the advocacy group. "The image of manufacturing as dumb, dirty, dangerous and disappearing is far from accurate," Allen said. "Today, manufacturing is smart, safe, sustainable and surging."
