Coconut oil shows potential in fight against tooth decay

Coconut oil is effective against common bacterial causes of tooth decay, according to research conducted at Ireland's Athlone Institute of Technology. Coconut oil treated with enzymes that mimic the digestion process was particularly effective against Streptococcus mutans, an acid-producing bacterium, as well as yeast. The oil has potential as a component of oral care products, the researchers said.
