Consumer NFC awareness is up, but skepticism remains

Although only 8% of smartphone owners are aware of their devices' NFC capabilities -- though that figure has doubled in six months -- more than half of those who are aware have made contactless payments, according to data from eDigitalResearch. Even so, "our results show that, whilst awareness of contactless mobile payments is on the increase, 30% of the consumers that we surveyed don't think that there are any benefits to the technology whatsoever," said eDigitalResearch's Derek Eccleston.
