English teachers and those who enjoy literature are increasingly concerned that the Common Core State Standards could lead schools to replace fiction with nonfiction works. While the architects of the common core have said removing all literature from schools was not the intent, a recent paper by the Pioneer Institute finds that fiction will inevitably have a lesser role in the classroom under the common core.
