States reach out to enable aging in place

Americans aging in place are increasingly receiving a helping hand from state governments, with legislation affecting land use, housing initiatives and transportation, according to a new report from the National Conference of State Legislatures and AARP's Public Policy Institute. A dozen states, for instance, have statutes that address transit-oriented development for seniors who don't drive, and 40 states have instituted trust funds for affordable housing.
