Settlements reach $51M in Calif. perchlorate pollution case

Settlements related to allegations of pollution in Rialto, Calif., caused by perchlorate, which is used in explosives, and the solvent trichloroethylene have totaled $51 million so far. That amount may go toward ending and reimbursing residents for a water-bill surcharge used for water cleanup, a city councilman said. When all settlements are negotiated, the total could surpass $100 million, officials have said.
