Postmenopausal women who had breast cancer were more likely than those without the disease to develop diabetes, with a steady increase in diabetes risk from 7% at two years following cancer diagnosis to 21% at 10 years, according to a study in Diabetologia. However, diabetes risk was higher in the first two years after cancer diagnosis and then declined in women who underwent chemotherapy, researchers noted.
