Cargill does not support the commercialization of biotech seeds in the U.S. prior to their approval in major foreign grain markets, said Randal Giroux, the firm's vice president of food safety. Meanwhile, there is unease internationally about genetically modified organisms in agriculture. "Many of us still consider GMO-based agricultural products unsafe and even harmful to the environment," said Antonius Suwanto of the Bogor Institute of Agriculture in Indonesia.
