Report: Mutual funds could face competition in 401(k) plans

Mutual funds represented 52.3% of all investment vehicles in 401(k) plans at the end of 2011. In the future, however, the search for lower fees and greater flexibility could lead more large plans to increase their investments in collective trusts and other institutional products, a Cerulli Associates report says.
