States diverge on immigration laws

State legislatures have taken differing approaches on immigration issues since the federal government failed to mandate major immigration reform. While Oklahoma passed a comprehensive anti-illegal-immigration law this year, Illinois, where 1.7 million immigrants live, has barred companies from checking workers' immigration status with a federal database.
