New York high school's focus is on real-world experience

Real-world experience, including internships and portfolios, are the focus of Lafayette Big Picture High School in upstate New York -- one of 60 schools nationwide to adopt the Big Picture Company's approach to learning that emphasizes personalized instruction. Students at Lafayette design their own lessons, set their own benchmarks and take advantage of off-site mentors regularly.
