University of Pennsylvania aims to perform hand transplants

The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is expected to announce its plan to start performing hand transplants. There are three centers in the U.S., including the University of Pittsburgh, that offer the procedure. The University of Pennsylvania's first two candidates on the hand-transplant list underwent amputation of the arms and legs as a result of bloodstream infections.
