First-time U.S. unemployment claims fall to 43-month low

The number of U.S. workers applying for unemployment benefits for the first time fell to 366,000 last week, the smallest weekly number since May 2008. The average number of claims over the past month, seen by many economists as a more reliable measure of labor-market conditions, was the lowest since July 2008.
