Execs: Voice recognition could be part of CIO's IT strategy

Hospitals can address physician documentation challenges and achieve "meaningful use" by turning to voice recognition solutions for electronic medical records, some health care executives say. VR technology "is ready for prime time" and could be part of any CIO's overall IT strategy, but CIOs should "look at the workflow of the clinician. ... You may have to study each department and decide which tool to use to meet their workflow needs" in order to achieve successful adoption, said Dr. John Halamka, CIO of Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
