Researchers look to develop solar fabrics

Engineers and scientists have succeeded in creating a silicon-based optical fiber that can work as a photovoltaic solar cell, leading to the possibility of a solar fabric that could be woven into clothing. "The military especially is interested in designing wearable power sources for soldiers in the field," said John Badding, a chemistry professor at Penn State University.
