FDA OKs cardiac pump for children with heart failure

The FDA has approved Berlin Heart's Excor Pediatric System, the first mechanical cardiac assist device designed to keep young heart failure patients alive while waiting for a donor heart. The device already is being marketed in the U.S. under a compassionate use protocol since 2000.
