Areva proposes recycling system to manage U.S. used nuclear fuel

Areva Federal Services has offered a solution for managing the country's increasing inventory of used nuclear fuel. During a meeting of the South Carolina Governor's Nuclear Advisory Council, a company official described a recycling system that would lessen the material to be stored in the long term. Paul Murray, technology director for Areva Federal Services, said the system wouldn't involve stockpiling plutonium and would balance recycling capacity with demand.
