Lawyers: HOAs should govern with reason and care for homeowners

A letter to a new family in a Florida community, demanding that they take down a "Welcome Home" sign made by the family's young daughter, led many neighbors to look upon their HOA with contempt and distrust, lawyers Gary Poliakoff and Ryan Poliakoff write. They argue that although associations need to enforce rules consistently, they should use reason and recognize when enforcement may disrupt the sense of community.
