Europe moves to scale back phosphate content in detergents

The European Parliament voted to restrict phosphate content in consumer laundry and dishwasher detergents. European member states will vote on whether to create a uniform standard where a standard dose of consumer laundry detergent would be limited to 0.5 grams or less of phosphorus starting in June 2013. The standard for soaps used in dishwashers would drop to 0.3 grams in 2017.
