7 supermassive black holes pinpointed in galaxies near ours

Of 62 galaxies clustered around our own, scientists think 37 of them have X-ray-emitting centers and seven contain supermassive black holes. One such galaxy is NGC 3627, a spiral galaxy 30 million light years from Earth. A team of scientists used data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory to conduct their survey, which was published last year in the Astrophysical Journal.
