Companies save money with wellness programs

Chronic illness is expensive for employers. Ontario Power Generation estimated that five major physical and mental health disorders cost the company more than $17 billion in drug costs and medical absence in 2010. The company created a wellness program focused on employee education, engagement, enablement and empowerment, which led to decreases in both sick days and drug costs in the first year.
