Sunshine Act proposed rule resets compliance deadlines

After missing an Oct. 1 deadline, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finally issued a proposed rule implementing the Physician Payments Sunshine Act last week, just a day before the Senate Special Committee on Aging was scheduled to hold a hearing about the effect of the rule's delay. "It's high time the affected communities got to see the proposed rules," said Coalition for Healthcare Communication Executive Director John Kamp. The proposed rule postpones the start date for industry data collection and truncates the amount of data industry must submit at the first submission deadline. Read more.
