AAR: Rail carloads dip but intermodal grows in latest week

The volume of rail carloads transported by U.S. railroads dropped 3.9% in the week ending Dec. 15 against year-ago levels, but intermodal activity rose 8%, according to the Association of American Railroads. The highest gainer among the 12 of 20 shipment categories that showed increases was petroleum shipments, up 50.1% year-on-year, AAR noted.
