Will Hulu focus on pay offerings or free content?

Hulu chief executive Jason Kilar reportedly wants to double his budget for acquiring programming and expanding into global markets to $200 million. The request must be signed off by two of the three owners of the site, News Corp. and the Walt Disney Co. -- the third owner, Comcast, doesn't get to vote for regulatory reasons. The need for additional funding for the unprofitable site could bring to light differences between News Corp., which sees Hulu's future as a subscription-only service, and Disney, which wants to focus on its free, ad-driven offerings.
