WikiLeaks: U.S., U.K. trying to influence madrasas in Bangladesh

The United Kingdom and the United States reportedly are trying to influence education in Bangladesh's religious schools to fight terrorism, according to a document released by WikiLeaks. A leaked cable reveals U.S. ambassador to Dhaka, James Moriarty, discussing plans to ask Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina to create and implement a standardized curriculum for unregulated Islamic schools, or madrasas. There are 64,000 Islamic schools in Bangladesh, including 15,000 unregulated ones.
