Illinois officials worry over rising levee-repair costs

Local officials in southwestern Illinois are concerned about the increase in projected costs for the rehabilitation of five levees that protect the region from severe flooding. The Army Corps of Engineers raised the repair-cost estimate to between $300 million and $500 million after the agency discovered more defects in the structures.
