Calif. school club aims to encourage girls' love of math

Female students at Hendrick Ranch Elementary School in Moreno Valley, Calif., have an opportunity to learn about careers that use math, thanks to the Girls Love Math club. Club sponsor and math teacher Tonna Dagenhart invites professionals to talk to students and engages club members with projects related to geometric design and rocketry. "Research shows that girls have a tendency to back away or dummy down their math abilities during their middle school years," Dagenhart said.
