Senate passes $633B defense authorization bill

A bill authorizing $633 billion in defense spending for the current fiscal year awaits the signature of President Barack Obama after being passed by the Senate on Friday. The president opposes the legislation and has promised to veto it, but both houses of Congress passed the bill with majorities large enough to override a presidential veto.
