Common core begins to take shape in early grades

Implementation of the Common Core State Standards bring more rigorous instruction and a greater focus on college- and career-readiness, educators in Ohio say. Work already is under way in districts to align instruction in kindergarten through second grade with the common core -- a process officials say has required additional professional development for teachers. "We are really rebuilding our curriculum from the ground up," said Brian Davis, curriculum director in Washington Local School in Toledo, Ohio.
