Michigan county may expand fiber-optic 9-1-1 phone system

The Central Dispatch 9-1-1 service in Muskegon County, Mich., connects local first responders through a fiber-optic, Internet-based telephone system, and officials now want to add area government offices and agencies to that system. Projected savings in a fully consolidated phone system are estimated at up to $2 million over 10 years.
