States tackle fracking rules amid shale boom

States are crafting standards for hydraulic fracturing in response to demand for shale drilling, observers say. Colorado and West Virginia recently approved rules for the drilling practice, while New York and Ohio continue to debate how oversight should be applied. An IHS Global Insight report released this month stated that shale drilling could add $118 billion in U.S. economic growth and 870,000 jobs during the next four years.
