USGBC's Fedrizzi on sustainable development in Middle East

The challenges of building sustainably in the Middle East are different than those in more temperate Western climates, says Rick Fedrizzi, president and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council. Tall buildings such as Saudi Arabia's Kingdom Tower can perform sustainably "[i]f every measure is taken to improve energy, water, waste, materials [and] air quality." Qatar's planned carbon-neutral stadium for 2022 FIFA World Cup could also become an example of the region's greener architecture, Fedrizzi said.
