Researchers cite link between celiac disease, type 1 diabetes

An Italian study in the journal Endocrine showed that celiac disease prevalence was higher in children and adults with type 1 diabetes than in those who did not have the disease. Researchers examined about 500 type 1 diabetes patients and found that 4.5% were diagnosed with celiac disease, compared with a diagnosis rate of 1 in 1,000 in the general population.
