Teenagers challenge media portrayals of women and girls

A number of teenage girls are working to shape the media's portrayal women the effect it has on girls’ perception of beauty, this article says. New Jersey teen Lauren Alberti challenged her classmates to come to school for one day with no makeup on, while Maine teenager Julia Bluhm launched a petition last summer to urging Seventeen magazine to include images of average American girls.
