Fresenius blood-loss drug gets FDA nod

The FDA on Thursday approved Frankfurt, Germany-based Fresenius SE's blood-thickening solution Voluven for use in patients who have lost massive amounts of blood. Voluven, which has been found to be as safe as similar solutions, including B. Braun Medical's Hespan, works by increasing the volume of red blood cells and plasma.
