The New Distribution Capability model being developed by the International Air Transport Association will supplement the traditional GDS model by providing travel agents with an aggregated view of airline products, the group says. At the same time, airlines will be able to offer the same products through their own direct channels to increase sales. "NDC is not a GDS bypass and is not a travel-agent bypass. Quite the opposite: It gives GDS and travel agents the ability to access the same product offers when airlines sell their products directly to consumers via their websites," said Eric Leopold of the IATA.
