The U.S. wind-energy industry continued to expand this year despite challenges in the international and domestic markets, including stiffer competition from China, which took the global lead in terms of cumulative wind capacity, according to this analysis. U.S. cumulative capacity in 2011 is expected to exceed 45 gigawatts, the second-largest worldwide, but growth could slow down in 2013 if Congress does not extend the industry's Production Tax Credit beyond 2012.
