Telecom sector is denied subsidized handset exemption

The International Accounting Standards Board and the Financial Accounting Standards Board have voted not to give telecom operators an exemption from a revenue-recognition rule on subsidized handsets. The industry had lobbied for the exemption. The vote by the boards was part of a push to create a global accounting standard to make it easier for investors to compare sectors.
