Opinion: Scrap middle schools

Baltimore Sun columnist Gregory Kane wonders whether the debate over the controversial Studio Course reading and writing curriculum, which uses teen magazines as teaching tools, would even be needed if middle schools became K-8 facilities. He says schools chief Bonnie S. Copeland recently released test scores that showed 35% of middle-school students scored proficient or above this year on the state reading exam, compared with 60% of middle-school age students in K-8 schools.
